The Best Birthday of My Life!
August 9, 2017“That was the best birthday of my life! My friends came to visit me. They congratulated me and gave me a huge teddy bear. And after that we ate ice cream and cotton candy! Thank you to all of you for such a wonderful holiday!”
Today was Roma's birthday. He turned 10. Roma has been in the orphanage for many years already, so we were happy to make this day special for him and Igor, who turned nine yesterday. It was a wonderful double celebration.
Before we left for the orphanage that morning, a sweet couple came to us and gave us two big teddy bears to surprise the birthday boys. We were very thankful and knew the boys would love these!
Before the party, we sang songs with the children and Ruslan told the Bible parable about the prodigal son. He shared about how God’s love for us never ceases, and he always welcomes us into his loving arms. Despite all of our mistakes and mess ups, God still wants us in his family.
We prayed and then presented the boys with their birthday surprises. They were so happy to receive their huge teddy bears! It was like nothing they had ever seen before!
We then moved outside for some treats and sweets. We gave everyone ice cream and made cotton candy. The children and even the adults were in sugar heaven.
When our activities concluded, the children did not want us to leave... they said good bye so many times, gave thanks for such a special event, because we come to visit them, and they said how they looked forward to our next visit.
One of the volunteers, Katerina, 20 years old, said, “I love children very much and I love to play with them and take care of them. The participation in this project is a wonderful opportunity to show your love to children as God shows His love to me in my life day by day.”
