In the heart of Mogadishu, Somalia, a city marked by its challenges yet brimming with resilience, the Mamo Ugaaso Foundation Rehab Center stands as a beacon of hope. During a recent visit to the center, my colleague Ibrahim and I witnessed the incredible work being done to support vulnerable children and prevent violence.

As we arrived at the center, Ibrahim was immediately drawn to the hopeful yet cautious expressions on the children’s faces. Among them was Geedi, a 14-year-old boy with a story that captured all our hearts. Abandoned at a young age, Geedi faced unimaginable hardships living on the streets, struggling daily to survive. But his life took a transformative turn when he was rescued by the Mamo Ugaaso Foundation.

Now, Geedi has a safe place to call home, access to education, and the emotional support he desperately needed. He is thriving in school and participating in empowerment programs designed to give children like him a chance at a better future. Geedi’s gratitude is palpable as he reflects on how far he has come. His determination to use his experiences to mentor and uplift others is a testament to the profound impact of the foundation’s work.

During our visit, Ibrahim participated in discussions with the children about critical topics such as violence prevention, theft, abduction, and child trafficking. The children’s eagerness to learn was both inspiring and heartwarming. They listened intently, recognizing the value of knowledge in protecting themselves and their peers.

Programs like these are not just about providing immediate support; they are about equipping children with the tools and confidence to build a brighter future. The Mamo Ugaaso Foundation is doing just that—offering hope and transforming lives one child at a time.
