Growth does not always happen all at once. Sometimes it appears in small changes that become easier to notice over time. Through the Allies Mentoring Program in Indonesia, teachers and volunteers have been seeing those changes in children who continue to participate each month. The activities give them opportunities to learn, play, share their ideas, and practice positive character values both at the program and in everyday life.
Siti has been part of the program from the beginning and has spent the past two years helping children grow through these monthly activities. Her role goes beyond teaching. She also communicates with parents about their children’s progress and encourages them to take an active part in developing the same values at home. Through that consistent involvement, Siti has grown as a volunteer while building meaningful relationships with the children and their families.
One of those children is Safiq. When he first joined the program, he was very shy and quiet. Over the past six months, his teachers have watched him become more confident and willing to speak up. He now shares his opinions, participates more actively in games and learning activities, and is more comfortable joining the group. His parents have noticed changes at home as well. Safiq has become more helpful with household chores and has developed the habit of studying with friends when they have school assignments or group projects.
Safiq’s progress is a reminder that meaningful growth often comes through patience, encouragement, and people who continue to show up. With support from volunteers, teachers, and his family, he is learning to contribute, express himself, and take greater responsibility in the places that matter most to him. We are grateful for the support that allows children like Safiq to keep learning and growing through Allies.
