In 2005, Bob and Margaret King of Granbury, Texas, saw a growing crisis in their community. Young people were facing rising challenges—drug and alcohol exposure, anxiety, depression, and a lack of meaningful mentorship. Moved by compassion and a deep faith, the Kings set out to make a difference.
Their vision led to the creation of the More Than Me (MTM) Youth Ranch, a place where character could be built, life skills taught, and the message of Jesus shared. With the help of a generous local land deal and support from their community, the Kings established the MTM Youth Ranch on a beautiful property just off Highway 144 in Granbury. The ranch became the cornerstone of a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization—More Than Me.
In early 2023, through what can only be described as divine intervention, Allies in Youth Development was introduced to MTM. The alignment in mission and heart was undeniable. Both organizations shared a passion for nurturing the next generation through mentorship, hands-on learning, and a Christ-centered message of hope. Since then, Allies has partnered closely with MTM to support and expand its programming.
A New Chapter: MTM Gives Allies Stewardship of the Ranch
We’re thrilled to announce that More Than Me has officially entrusted Allies in Youth Development with full stewardship of the MTM Youth Ranch, including all property and assets currently on-site, to continue the work on helping children in Hood county.
This gift represents more than land—it is the passing of a legacy. The King family and others wanted to ensure the youth of today learned good moral character, grew their faith in Jesus, and learned about the pitfalls of society. Allies is honored to carry forward the vision that Bob and Margaret King began, with a renewed commitment to reaching youth across Texas and beyond.
“I’m overwhelmed and honored to receive this gift from the Kings and the MTM board,” said Chris Burgin, CEO of Allies in Youth Development.
Nick and Rebecca Williams, long-time supporters of Allies, became aware of the property in 2023 and began a conversation about the possibility of a partnership between Allies and MTM as they were starting the Allies Mentoring Program in Granbury. In 2024, the Williams were invited to join MTM’s board. After the passing of Mr. King in February 2025, discussions arose about gifting the assets to Allies.
Now under Allies’ stewardship, the MTM Youth Ranch will continue to serve as a refuge and resource for young people. Plans are already in motion to continue hosting faith-based events, outdoor skill-building activities, and leadership programs. Allies and a large host of volunteers have been working on a new mountain biking skills park and trail system for youth. Allies plans to open up the bike park and trail system to adults with a membership plan, which will help raise funds for youth ranch events, infrastructure buildout, and operations.
The ranch will also remain open for use by local churches, ministries, and partner organizations free of charge—continuing its role as a gathering place for community impact.
Continuing the Mission
As Allies takes the reins of the MTM Youth Ranch, we remain deeply grateful for the trust placed in us by the MTM board and the King family. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to equipping children not just for today—but for eternity.
