Fall is a beautiful time of the year—and a wonderful season to lift spirits up. Recently, Allies was at a children’s center to do just that. Songs were sung, games were played, and each child was given a chance to say something special about himself or herself. Members of the volunteer team are not new to these kinds of visits, but they remain committed to answer God’s call to love and foster the faith of underprivileged youth.
“I have been doing for 5 years already,” Raisa said. “I believe that we adults are responsible for children that have found themselves in such places as orphanages, and I will do everything I can to help them.”Among the orphaned children that Raisa sincerely wants to support is 12-year-old Irina, who suffers from cerebral palsy. At such a young age, Irina has already had to undergo several surgeries, and while she is in a much better condition now, another costly surgery (approximately 750 euros) is necessary to maintain good health.
Despite her challenges, Irina is very determined to do well in school and continue participating in Allies programs. She strives to be like any other child, and that in itself is both inspiring and uplifting. “I am so happy that you came to visit us,” she said. “I love to sing and I like to study, but because of my illness I cannot do everything well. I will try to participate in your program and I will try to do everything like other children do."
