A Lesson That Changed Everything

In May, our Allies Mentoring Program (AMP) reached children across 44 countries with a powerful lesson, entitled, The Power of Responsibility: How Our Actions Change the World. Led by our large team of dedicated volunteer, the session encouraged children to recognize that even small daily choices can shape their communities and impact others.

One child who fully embraced this message was 7-year-old Joel from Tanzania. After losing both parents in a tragic attack, Joel found refuge at Kingdom Heritage Kids orphanage. During the lesson, Joel quietly absorbed the discussion—until the game “What Will Happen If…?” sparked something in him. He stood up and shared how he now helps tend the orphanage’s garden, ensuring others have enough to eat. In that moment, Joel was no longer just a child receiving care—he became someone offering it. His journey is a remarkable example of how dignity and purpose take root when children are empowered with responsibility.

Twelve-year-old Lailati, also from Tanzania, experienced her own transformation. Having lost her father to illness and enduring poverty before arriving at Mwandaliwa Orphanage, Lailati had long felt isolated—especially after facing bullying from her peers. But during the AMP session, she found the courage to speak up. Her honesty opened the door for real change. The children who had hurt her took responsibility and offered a sincere apology, and the caregivers reinforced a culture of kindness and respect. For the first time in a long while, Lailati felt seen and supported. Her smile returned, and she began participating with confidence.

Through stories like Joel’s and Lailati’s, we see that lessons about responsibility do more than educate—they heal, uplift, and restore. Because of your support, children around the world are discovering that their actions matter and their voices have power. Thank you for helping make that possible.
