Muyunda’s Dream: Turning Pain into Purpose

Muyunda is a bright 10-year-old boy in Grade 3 who lives with his mother in the Nakatindi Community of Zambia. His parents separated after his father’s abusive behavior caused lasting harm to the family. His mother endured physical violence, and it was this trauma that eventually led to their decision to part ways.

Despite the emotional challenges he's faced, Muyunda is full of hope and he’s already dreaming big. His goal? To become a Prevention Practitioner – someone who works to stop family and gender-based violence before it happens.

During a recent Allies in Youth Development session on Social Psychological Adaptation – Violence Prevention, Muyunda stood out. The lesson struck a personal chord, but instead of retreating, he leaned in. He listened closely, asked thoughtful questions, and actively participated in the discussion.

Though the topic was deeply sensitive, Muyunda was joyful throughout the session. He found comfort and hope in learning how to recognize and prevent violence. His sincere interest showed not only a hunger for knowledge but also a commitment to creating a better future, not just for himself, but for others too.

Muyunda’s story is a powerful example of how education, compassion, and support can help transform pain into purpose. He is a courageous child whose resilience shines brightly, reminding us why safe spaces for healing and growth are essential for every child.
