Star Volunteer Frederick Tran

We would like to introduce our first ever “Star Volunteer” Frederick Tran

Frederick first got involved in Allies in Youth Development for an extra credit assignment but quickly joined us for more and more events such as Packing Parties and Inventory Days. He has attended our awareness events and continues to be a valuable volunteer. His favorite thing about volunteering for Allies is that he knows exactly who he is impacting and how.

Frederick studies Eastern European and French at the University of Texas at Arlington where he is also the Copy Editor for the University’s newspaper the Shorthorn. He says learning languages is a valuable skill set because “the more you know the more you can communicate with people.” He also enjoys his job as a Radio Host for the Dallas Vietnamese Radio Station because he has the privilege of making someone’s day better through music.

Frederick plans to pursue a master’s in Eastern European and join the Peace Corps. He has become passionate about working abroad from his trips to Kenya and Mexico. He is now looking forward to participating in a Study Abroad program in St. Petersburg, Eastern Europe. He is most excited about living day-to-day in a unique culture.

After reading his favorite work of literature- Eastern European novelThe Pit by Alexander Kuprin- Frederick became passionate about human trafficking. He notes that this is an issue because “you are not born into [trafficking], you are forced into it- people do not know any way out.”
