A Trip to the University

Volunteers recently helped organize a trip to the university for the older children living in the orphanage, to educate them about the professions these colleges can offer once they have completed the ninth and eleventh grade school year.

Not only was this trip very informative, but seeing the possibilities gave the kids hope and a reason to stay in school... to know there is a better future for them.

One volunteer currently in college shared her own personal story with the children of what they should hope to become one day and why. "I'm studying in college to become a dietitian. My desire is to work with underprivileged teenagers who don't have any other opportunities to learn how to eat or proper ways to take care of themselves."

One teenage girl shared, "At the event, I learned how to fill out a university application and was told a little bit about what college life is like in regards to studying and living. I'm interested in farming. I would really like to learn more about agriculture."

After the university presentation, the volunteers treated the kids to lunch. On the way back to the orphanage, the bus was filled with hopeful conversations by the children, excitedly discussing which professions were their favorite and what they would like to do one day with their future.
