Calling Off Quarantine Creates Opportunities

Allies Youth recently received a letter from from an orphanage in Sevastopol, Eastern Europe after a quarantine was ended.

"The quarantine is finally over! During that time our team thought of many interesting activities for our visits. Even though some people are still hesitant about visiting, eight of our volunteers went to the Sevastopol orphanage. There were not very many children there after the quarantine. This time we decided to tell the youth about the driving profession. At the beginning, there was a skit about a young driver who was trying to figure out the purpose of his profession. Volunteer Kolya did a great job playing the young inexperienced driver, and the youth were laughing hard. After the skit, Tanya talked to children about the importance of the driving profession, kinds of vehicles, and names of the people who drive them. Tanya’s guest was a puppet named Neznayka (it was controlled by Snezhana). Our big screen did not fit in our sedan, so we just used whatever was available. Then, we had exciting contests that were organized by the volunteer family of Inga and Evgeniy. The kids were excited to participate in the contests and try themselves in the role of drivers. The entertaining atmosphere made the orphanage staff happy, as well. One of the contests was requested to be played twice. We also talked a little about traffic rules and how to be safe on the road. The atmosphere of the visit was very friendly and happy."

Volunteer Story: The family of Inga and Zhenya always bring their daughters. Evelina is 11 years old, and Feruza is 9. They are convinced that participating in the program involves their entire family, and teaches their children to be kind, compassionate, and sacrificial. Zhenya helps us with the technical part, and Inga who has degrees in nursing and psychology can communicate with the most difficult child. Games that this family organizes are always exciting and make the youth happy.

Child Story: Alina, 13 years old. She is an orphan. She is very talented at art. Chris and his team saw her performance last fall. She likes to sing, draw and does well in school. One problem is that she is epileptic. The orphanage staff tells us that she often has seizures at night. Just like we do with other kids, we try to surround her with love and attention.
