Old New Year

A group of 20 people, mostly students from a wide variety of university and service backgrounds, took a volunteer trip to an orphanage in Sevostoplskaya and Shongenovskaya where "John," a businessman, gave a speech about life choices.

John’s speech centered around “road rules”, while he explained that life also has rules clearly told in the Bible itself.

“If we will not follow or obey these rules,” he said. “We can either face catastrophe or accidents, or we can be happy and successful if we choose to follow them.”

The team of volunteers followed this by performing a skits based on John’s illustration. The underlying message was that at any moment in time, no matter what the situation, a person can choose the right choice to change his or her destiny.

After various games and contests, Olga, a volunteer, gave the children at the orphanage an assortment of treats and gifts. AIYD provided candy and hygiene products for those at the orphanage.

Liza, a 19-year old volunteer, said she heard about the project from a friend who is a volunteer with AIYD.

“Being a leader in the acts of service community, I talked to the project coordinator and said we would help,” she said. “At the next meeting, we discussed our participation with this program! I never thought this trip and meeting all of the children would fill my team and I with so much emotion!

“We’re ready to participate in more events!” An 8-year old little girl at the orphanage, also named Liza, said she likes when the volunteers come to visit them.
