A Day to Celebrate at the Orphanage

Today was a special day as we got to share Easter with the children at the orphanage. We came earlier than usual. The children were still having their lunch, but they were so glad to see us that many of them left their food to come greet us. One little girl around the age of twelve exclaimed excitedly, "Finally, you've come! I am so happy to see you! I already went to ask the director a few times when would you be coming and she said it wasn't until the weekend. And now I can see you. You cannot imagine how much I have missed you."

The desire to be loved and to have fellowship with one another among these children is a blessing to them beyond what we can fathom. Their hearts are ready and open to receive The Word and direction from those they have grown to admire and trust.

After lunch, the children began to get settled for our time together. We began with a few games, sang some songs, and memorized a new one that would open the lesson for the day. One of the volunteers continued our time together by introducing the lesson with the story of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and how this affects our life today.

The craft for the day was a cross with the writing, "Christ Is Risen". We wanted to show that Christ is not on the cross anymore… He is not there, He is Alive, He is Risen! As we closed for the day, we had the children memorize John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

A precious gift we have been given if we choose to accept. These children already desire the fellowship and time of our volunteers more than food alone. How much more this gift that God has given us!

We said our good-byes and reminded them we'll be back again soon. As we are drove away, we turn to see, Lesha, a little boy come out to see us off. He waved until we could no longer see him in the distance.

One of our volunteers said, "We were called to love and to take care of others. That is why I participate in this project. This manifestation of love to these children appears in us because of God's work in our hearts. Children in the orphanage need love and care like no one else. We want to be with them now very much, to bring joy and to make a difference in their lives; to influence their future by God's Word. "
